Manitouwadge Marathoners Take 1st & 2nd at Wawa’s Black Fly Run

WAWA, ON– Saturday, June 19^th, 13th annual Black Fly Run was held in Wawa with many new, fun elements for participants and bystanders alike.

New this year, every runner/walker who passed the finish line received a commemorative medal made by local potters. T-shirts were also provided to those who participated in the 10km event and half-marathon (21.6km). Also new for 2013, there were some great musical acts along the run keeping participants, and spectators, motivated.

Among the out-of-towners at the Black Fly Run were Manitouwadge residents Jamie Thompson and Carol Barnes who ran the 10km challenge while Cyndi Jackson, Virgina Thompson (Jamie’s mom) and Trena Roberts completed the half marathon an impressive 21.6 km!

For Trena the marathon was a first and though she had been training for months her goals were to attend and complete the 1/2 marathon and so she was very pleased to be the first of the women running the full 21.6km to cross the finish line with Virginia claiming 2nd about 15min later. WOW!

CONGRATULATIONS to Trena and all those who participated and reached their personal goals at the 13th Annual Wawa Black Fly Run!
