AWII Pit Stop = A Safer Community Thanks To Collaboration with Fire Department
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Last week, participants of the Manitouwadge Family Health Team’Amazing Walk II (click here to learn more) had a very important Pit Stop in which one person from each team was required to attend and complete; “Introduction to Fire Extinguisher Safety” and the Manitouwadge Fire Hall.
The pit stop should’ve seen at least 45 Amazing Walk II participants attending in total (there were 4 session times/dates to choose from); Fire Chief Owen Cranney was very pleased to report a remarkable 149 people attended learning about the types of fire extinguishers, where they need to be kept, how frequently they should be tested and how to do so, and other important details after which everyone had the opportunity to practice their newly acquired skills on a controlled fire, with a water filled extinguisher.
Among those lessons taught was the acronym P.A.S.S. which represents the key steps in using an extinguisher effectively:
P – Pull the safety loop on the trigger of the extinguisher
A– Aim the extinguisher at the base of the flames
S – squeeze the trigger on the extinguisher
S – sweep the spray back and forth across the base of the flames
If you did not have the opportunity to attend but would like to learn more about safe fire extinguisher use please contact Ma nitouwadge Fire Chief Owen Cranney at (807) 826-3227. Don’t miss the Amazing Walk II wrap-up “An Evening in Venice” taking place June at Prospectors’ Park (on Manitouwadge Lake) Thursday, June 27th at 7pm.
