MANITOUWADGE, ON – Manitouwadge High School students and staff as well as many residents mourned the passing of Principal John Mutch this winter (March 14, 2013).  At Mr. Mutch’s funeral, members of the MHS Senior Band performed and long-time friend Bob Kirkpatrick spoke fondly of Mr. Mutch, his words very moving to those in attendance.

Now those who mourned Mr. Mutch also have a special place to reflect on the many happy memories they have of this special man  as a Norwegian apple tree was recently planted in front of the school in his memory.  Among the many qualities Mr. Mutch’s students, co-workers, friends and family described were his very down to earth nature, quiet disposition and great sense of humour.

The tree in memory of Mr. Mutch is planted only a few feet from a lilac tree planted in memory of student Jamie-Lee Hoban (CLICK HERE to view article) who lost her life in a tragic vehicular collision in 2009.  Plans are to have a permanent plaque added in front of Mr. Mutch’s tree similar to that which has been installed in front of Jamie-Lee Hoban’s memorial tree.
