MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Manitouwadge Family Health Team’s Amazing Walk II will wind up next week (details below) with “An Evening in Venice” but the prizes which will be won by one lucky team at that special evening are just the tip of the iceberg in regards to what has been given to the community through this great initiative.

During Segment One, teams were asked to dontate boxes of cereal for the elementary school Breakfast Club program (CLICK HERE for full story) and they went over and above donating enough for about 600 bowls of cereal! Well, following-up on the heels of that great pit-stop during Segment Three, teams were asked, as one of their mandatory Pit-Stops, to make a donation of non-perishable food items for the Neighbour to Neighbour Food Bank (local food bank) and participants did not dissapoint.

The Manitouwadge Family Health Team was thrilled to turn over a mountain of donations to food bank volunteers Carol Baye and Candyce Maynard last week.  Carol Baye was very impressed “There is always a need and this donation will go a long way towards re-stocking our shelves” said Baye.

Manitouwadge Family Health Team Director Lee Kriniski has emphasized that the Amazing Walk challenges (2012 was the first 8 week event followed up this year with the Amazing Walk II) are about much more than just creating healthy exercise habits, “We want people to be learning more about what their community has to offer, to be getting out and meeting new people, learning how they can be involved with important causes in town and enjoying every aspect of living in Manitouwadge” and the MFHT certainly has succeeded in to meet all those goals!

If you weren’t part of a team for the Amazing Walk II remember you are still encouraged to attend and enjoy “An Evening in Venice” at Prospector’s Park next Thursday, June 27th at 7pm. There will be refreshements, candy floss, popcorn, snow cones, sweets and assorted pastires available to purchase, the winning team and other prizes will be drawn and of course there are Picnic basket once again which can be pre-ordered by calling the MFHT at 826-3174 (Picnic baskets have enough treats for 6 people and include a tablecloth, sampling from Thunder Oak Chees Farm, Donato’s Bakery Italian Bread, Bicotti & Cannoli, Olives and ‘Champagne’ bubbles (mini-bubble bottles) for just $18! It will be a great evening full of community spirit and fun that you won’t want to miss!
