KAPUSKASING, ON – June 11, 2013, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were flagged down by a passing motorist who advised that there was smoke coming from a plane on the runway at the Kapuskasing airport. Police responded and notified emergency services. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Kapuskasing Fire Department.
The police investigation revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:50 pm while the Beechcraft King Air 100 plane operated by Wabusk Air was effecting a landing.
No injuries were reported by the two pilots, who were the only occupants of the plane at the time of the incident.
The Transportation Board of Canada was notified and is continuing their investigation.
