MANITOUWADGE, ON – Thursday, June 20th, residents celebrated summer’s arrival early and it seems Mother Nature was on-board as attendees enjoyed ideal weather, sunny skies and temps around 28oC for the annual 1st Day of Summer Celebration & BBQ on the Recreation Centre lawn adjacent to the town’s public, outdoor pool.
Community Programmer Shawna Patterson (scroll down for interview; below photo gallery) was thrilled with the turn out mentioning she had not expected such a great response though, with the event being included as the Manitouwadge Family Health Team Amazing Walk II’s final community Pit Stop, it could not have been a total surprise. As if the Pit Stop inclusion weren’t enough, one unlucky team was also in attendance fulfilling their “Pandora’s Box” challenge with a lemonade stand whose profits where to be donated to the Manitouwadge Nursery School.

In addition to the BBQ, free swimming was a huge hit and kicks off an entire summer of swimming at NO COST at the Oasis Pool*. Kids also enjoyed plenty of bubbles to play with, showing off their creativity with chalk on the pavement, and the opportunity to meet the 2013 Lifeguards and Oasis Staff.
*Aquatics and lessons are not part of the Free Swimming at Manitouwadge’s Oasis Pool however public and family swims are free ensuring daily opportunities to take a dip without dipping into your wallet!
