Marathon Theatre & Cultural Centre Receives $75,000 Grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation

Faced with the financial challenge of moving with the film industry to convert to a digital format, a Collaborative consisting of the Town of Marathon, the Marathon Library, the Marathon & District Museum and Marathon Theatre, was formed in 2012.  The Collaborative envisioned an underutilized theatre facility being used for enhanced and important cultural, artistic, historical and sport-related programming, training and education for the benefit of the community and region.

Thanks to a $75,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Marathon Theatre & Cultural Centre has undergone a complete upgrade with state-of-the-art digital projection equipment, screen and surround sound system.  A leading grantmaker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities.

The Centre’s future is bright indeed and we want you to be part of the celebration.  The Collaborative will be hosting a grand re-opening celebration of the Marathon Theatre & Cultural Centre on May 22.  The Centre is located in the Marathon Recreation Complex on Peninsula Road.

The celebration will commence at 2 p.m. with remarks from members of the Collaborative and several dignitaries, including MPP Michael Gravelle.  A short-film by Thunder Bay filmmakers will follow.
