POLICE SEIZE OVER 9KG OF MARIHUANA WHEN TIMMINS MAN STOPPED FOR ALLEGED SPEEDING ON HWY 17

MARATHON ON – Tuesday April 9, 2013 at approximately 5:15 pm, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment observed a dark coloured Chevrolet Impala speeding on Highway 17 in Pic Township, east of Marathon.

Police stopped the vehicle and while speaking to the driver observed prescription medication in the vehicle and when asked the driver could not produce a prescription or the proper pill container. The male was then arrested for possession of a controlled substance. A search of the trunk incident to arrest revealed that the male had just over 9 kg of cannabis marihuana in some luggage. A sum of Canadian currency was also located in the vehicle.

The accused, a 25 year old male from Timmins ON was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and speeding. He was remanded into custody.

Possession of prescription medication without the proper documentation or packaging is an offence under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
