MANITOUWADGE, ON – Education takes on a whole new meaning when you live in the North and you are a student at MPS.  Mrs. Schleier’s class recently braved the snow to learn how to construct Quinzees in the bush.

With shovels, pans and lots of enthusiasm, eager learners readied themselves to survive if they ever found themselves stranded in the wintry cold.  The project was completed over two days as the quinzee was built by piling up the snow and letting it settle (in this case – overnight).  A hole was then dug into the snow pile – big enough to crawl into.  Students pictured above made an abode big enough to hold eleven people!!!! They found themselves ‘snug as a bug in a rug’  – and even though there were no TV or video game it did not deter their excitement about the hard work they had accomplished!

Once again a valuable education was a part of the everyday activity at MPS.

Though a lot of hard work, construction was also a lot of fun. Photos MPS
