Wawa Mourns Wilfred Pearce
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilfred Pearce on Friday March 15, 2013 at the age of 85, with family by his side.
Loving husband of the late Gertrude “Trudie” Pearce. Adored and missed by his children Karen Pearce Brown (Bob), Lila Lytwenko (Rick Sutton), Connie Taylor, Randy Pearce and Linda Pearce. Cherished grandpa of Nadia (Lucas), Christian, Natasha (Dave), Sabrina and Tamara. Dear brother of Phyllis MacCallum (late Bob) of Nova Scotia and brother-in-law of Shirley Coleman (late Fred). He is predeceased by his siblings Irene Berry (late Roy), Sydney Pearce (late Hazel), Ronald Pearce, Gladys McQuarrie (late Bill) and infants Robert and Charles. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Fred came to Ontario from Nova Scotia in the fifties and worked in the bush logging and driving truck. He worked on construction of the Red Rock Hydro Dam and eventually got a job underground at Algoma Ore Properties in Wawa, where he retired 20 years ago. Fred was an avid reader and self-educated on many subjects. He had a mechanical ability and was Mr. Fix-It. He enjoyed trout fishing, was a great berry picker and loved to dance. The pride of their garden on Montreal Avenue was his potato patch. He was especially proud of his wife Trudie’s musical talents and spent many evenings as the audience at band practices at the house. Fred was a kind and good-natured soul who will be remembered in Wawa for helping others until he was sidelined by illness ten years ago. The family takes comfort that he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour and that he will have a new body free of pain in Heaven.
