Terrace Bay Council Approves Housing Study
TERRACE BAY, ON – At their March 18th Meeting, Terrace Bay Council approved a proposal from the Planning Partnership to carry out a Housing Opportunity Study.
The Municipality is familiar with the work of the Planning Partnership as they are the consulting firm working on the Waterfront Feasibility Study. The study will include an inventory of current housing and short-term accommodations in Terrace Bay as well as an overview of vacant land that may be suitable for development. The consulting team will meet with some of the larger employers and stakeholders in the region to determine future demand for housing based on their projected hiring, age of their workforce, and expected needs of employees. A survey will also be developed for current residents to provide feedback. From this, a report will be developed which the Municipality will use in its planning as well as to market the Community to developers interested in building residential subdivisions.
Chief Administrative Officer Carmelo Notarbartolo says “We have spoken to other communities in similar situations and are learning from their experiences. Once completed, we will use this study as a resource and tool for the future plans of our community.”
The project is expected to begin immediately and will be completed in the next 2-3 months. The housing situation was recently identified as a significant issue in recruiting employees by the business Community. This is one of the ways the Municipality is responding to this need with other new initiatives on the horizon including increased marketing of the Town using video and working with employers to promote Terrace Bay to potential new employees. The Township currently has some of the vacant residential buildings lots available in the Parkway and East Grove areas featured on its website.
