FROM SKILLS ONTARIO: This past fall and winter, Skills Canada-Ontario held Cardboard Boat Race competitions at several locations across the province (See links below for photos/details from Northshore/Greenstone schools at fall competitions) for both elementary and secondary students. At each of those events, three teams were awarded with gold, silver or bronze medals, based on the judges’ scores for speed and durability and other factors such as teamwork.

On February 20 and 21, 2013, these medalists met for the ultimate showdown to see who would be crowned the best cardboard boat race builder/racer in the province. In just two hours, the teams of four students each constructed their boats using only cardboard, tape and adhesive. Following this, the races were on, with soggy vessels making their way across the pool as quickly as possible to partake in the nerve-racking weight challenge.
