HUGHES CONGRATULATES HORNEPAYNE JUBILEE MEDAL RECIPIENTS

HORNEPAYNE, ON – Hornepayne Jubilee Medal recipients are pillars of the community and deserving of recognition, according to local MP Carol Hughes.
The MP presented the 60th Anniversary commemorative medals to Laurette Potvin and Harry Widawski at the Royal Canadian Legion Zone 4 Convention in Hornepayne Saturday afternoon.
“It is an honour to be able to recognize people who make their community a better place,” said Hughes. “There are many people who do this kind of community building, but I am limited by the small number of medals I was allowed to direct.”
Both recipients were nominated for the honour in recognition of their long history of volunteerism and organizing.
“It is a great privilege to be able to recognize individuals who have dedicated themselves to this community,” said Hornepayne Mayor Morley Forster.
“These are two builders who have dedicated themselves to this community, so it is nice to be able to shine the spotlight on them,” said Hughes. “There is a lot of support behind these individuals receiving this recognition.
The following short descriptions were provided to support the nominations of the recipients:
Laurette Potvin is the current President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 194, Legion’s Ladies auxiliary, and Catholic Women’s League. Laurette advocates for veterans, youth, and her community through activities ranging from minor hockey, kids sport, boards and committees, citizen’s road emergency, the skidoo club and hospital auxiliary.
Harry Widaswki is a Veteran who has been involved with the Senior’s Sunshine Club and Meals on Wheels. Harry is a long serving, life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 194. At 89 years young he remains active within the community and is a truly positive role model for others.
