Gamache named Rookie of the Week, Statesmen hold steady in polls
Hobart College first-year Ben Gamache (Longlac, Ontario) was selected the ECAC West Rookie of the Week by the conference office today after scoring the game-winning goal in 6-1 win over Elmira on Saturday. Hobart, who earned a share of the ECAC West conference title over the weekend, remained at No. 5 in the D3hockey.com poll, and was ranked No. 6 for the second straight week by USCHO.com.
Gamache scored Hobart’s second goal against the Soaring Eagles. It was his eighth goal of the season and third game-winner. In his rookie season, Gamache has also chipped in six assists for 14 points. He is tied for first in the ECAC West in game-winning goals, ranks 11th in first-year scoring and is tied for 18th in goals.
Senior Frank Salituro (Vaughan, Ontario) garnered a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll. He led Hobart with three points, on a goal and two assists, in the win over Elmira. Salituro leads the team with 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points. He is tied for first in the nation with nine power-play goals. Salituro ranks second in the ECAC West in points, and goals. He is also tied for second in assists and power-play points (14).
The Statesmen finished the regular season with a 19-4-2 overall record and an 11-3-1 mark in the conference. Hobart’s 19 victories rank third on the program’s list for wins in a season. It’s just the second time in program history that the Statesmen have earned the ECAC West regular season title. Hobart is the No. 2 seed in the ECAC West tournament, and received a bye to the semifinals.
Hobart will host the highest remaining seed from the quarterfinals at The Cooler at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
