The History and Heritage of Northwest Francophones

THUNDER BAY, ON – L’Association des francophones du Nord-Ouest de l’Ontario – AFNOO and Le Club Canadien Français de Thunder Bay – CCF are pleased to announce the first travelling bilingual exhibit dedicated to the history and heritage of francophones in our region.
“A majority of Thunder Bay’s cultural communities have published their history. Until now the Francophones in our region have not followed this trend, and yet they are the individuals who set off to conquer Western Canada,” stated Cédrick Jeanpierre, President of the CCF. Mr. Jeanpierre also states that “CCF is one of the oldest Francophone organizations in Northwestern Ontario; through this exhibition, we hope to share our past and our roots.”
The exhibit, financed by Heritage Canada, consists of ten bilingual banners and is meant for everybody to enjoy. “The AFNOO, having a regional mandate, wants to ensure that the exhibition reaches the entire Northwest region in order to promote and recognize the Francophone heritage of our communities” confirmed Chantal Brochu, President of AFNOO.
AFNOO and the CCF invite you to discover their French ancestors who share their history through the stories of their travels, the fur trade, and the development of business and industry.
The exhibition will run during February at the Waverley Resource Library in Thunder Bay, in conjunction with Heritage Month organized by the Réseau du patrimoine franco-ontarien (RPFO). Admission is free..
