MANITOUWADGE, ON – Wednesday, December 5th , the high school kicked off the second sports season on home court winning 3 of their 4 games. The Wolverines faced off against the Marathon Falcons in the high schools opening game of the girl’s volleyball and the boy’s basketball season.
During the first game of the day, the junior girls proved victorious, showing Coach Bronson Keough, as well as the girls’ hard work and dedication, when they won their first two sets 25-15 and 25-3.
Next up were the senior girls volleyball team, coached by Wayne Pittman and Cody Oseicki. They gave us quite a scare after losing the first set 25-19, but they pulled it together and came out victorious, winning their next two sets 25-19 and 15-7.
The junior boys team were the next to play. With Gord Martin, Damilola Bodunde, and Kaitlyn Newton coaching, as well as a bench of 11, they were the largest team. The beginning to this game, however, proved to be unlike the senior girls game, as the junior boys pulled far ahead in points with ease. The team came out of a well played game against marathon with a score of 68-26.

To finish off the day, the senior boys, along with Coach Neil Esarte fought very hard to keep up the Wolverine’s winning streak. After battling constantly against the Marathon team for half of the game, it was possible that Manitouwadge could come out with 4 wins. Going into the 2nd half, with a score of 15-13 for Manitouwadge, our senior boys put everything they had onto the court, but their short bench of 6 had a hard time keeping up with Marathon High School’s Falcons, and lost with a score of 33-24.
At the end of the day, Manitouwadge did very well, and are hoping that the situation between the Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and the Ontario government will resolve soon so that OSSTF teachers can begin volunteering their services once again, and our sports season can continue.
