MARATHON, ON – 17 years ago, when diagnosed with breast cancer, Diane Michano-Richmond planted a white spruce tree in her yard.  Diane, beat the disease and, for the 18th anniversary of that diagnosis this year, she decided to use the white spruce which has grown quite large now, in her celebration of continued health. Diane, an elder of Pic River First Nation said she feels a significant connection to nature and that the spruce she had watched grow through her recovery and in the years since has special meaning to her.

Diane invited friends to join her for the official lighting of the tree a few weeks ago wanting not only to celebrate her own successful battle with cancer but also to recognize and celebrate all breast cancer survivors and possibly inspire those who are living with a more recent diagnosis of Breast Cancer.

Diane wanted to thank those who came out to support the lighting of her tree as well as the Marathon Canadian Tire which donated 4 boxes of beautiful pink lights for her tree.
