MANITOUWADGE, ON– Friday, December 14th the Nite on the Town Entertainment Series Annual Christmas Showcase was held at the Manitouwadge High School auditorium and many who attended raved that it was, by far, the best showcase yet (I would have to agree!).
Organizer Natalie Labbee had invited radio personality, CFNO-fm Morning Show Host and News Director Al Cresswell to act as Master of Ceremonies once again. Cresswell was well received by audience members and did a great job of keeping things entertaining between acts.
Before the entertainment could begin, Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha took the stage to make several special presentations (CLICK HERE for that story including videos of the presentations) first to 3 local teens who were responsible for saving a man drowning in Manitouwadge Lake this summer than to Marlene Turner who was chosen as a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The show opened with a very slim, mystery Santa dancing to a holiday version of the worldwide phenomenon “Gangnam Style”, inviting the audience to join him there were only a few brave enough to do so but it was entertaining none the less. This set the mood for an evening including a wide variety of musical performances by local choirs, bands and soloists including the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir accompanied by Pianist Shirley Desjardins, Manitouwadge Public School Trio directed by Carrie Zotter, Janelle Rusard performed both a solo and a couple of readings, the “Harmonica Man” Mr. Brian Cunningham, duo Chris Townes and Glenn Keenan, Bethany Youth Pastor Nathan Schwindt accompanied by teacher Betty Gillman who also performed her self-written crowd favourite “Merry Manitouwadge Christmas” as well as a duet with Organizer Natalie Labbee who also sang lead along with the Lalonde Brothers, Ted and Pat and several High School students to close the evening performing together as the “Mistle-Tones”.
Cresswell said his goodbyes and Labbee took the lead once again, encouraging those who stayed to join in some Holiday Sing-a-long fun. It was a wonderful evening which no doubt set the tone for very Happy Holidays ahead for all those who attended.
Congratulations to Natalie Labbee and all those involved on another very successful and enjoyable evening!
