Valdy Coming To Northern Ontario – Manitoulin Already Sold-Out!

Before you know it,  Valdy will be visiting  the back roads of Northern Ontario once again. Many people saw this unique and talented man, who has been a professional musician since the seventies, when he performed on CP’s Holiday Train last year. Come out to enjoy his talents again to hear a masterful storyteller, a Canadian folk singing legend, and a man who can play a mean guitar.  He’s down to earth. incredibly entertaining both a  Juno Award Winner and an Order of Canada recipient. Valdy’s Folk Music shows are suitable for all ages and a great way to bridge those generational gaps.  Those who have not yet seen him play live will not want to miss his upcoming shows in Northern Ontario including:

  • Murillo Community Centre – Monday Nov 19th,
  • Wawa Ecole St. Joseph Auditorium Tuesday Nov. 20th,
  • Manitoulin Island Nov. 21st SOLD OUT!,
  • Lavigne Community Centre (near Sturgeon Falls), Thursday Nov. 22nd.
The evening of  November 8th, local guitarists and singers auditioned in front of 3 judges and an enthusiastic audience at Lavigne Tavern. The judges were given the task of chosing which of the acts would open for Valdy’s concert at the Lavinge Community Centre November 22nd.   The final decision was made from among those who had performed original material including ; local singer songwriters are David Laronde, Temagami, Keith McLeod and Denis Junior Goulais from Nipissing First Nation, Garden Village,  and newcomer Anthony Beaucage, an English student at Nipissing University.    This showcase of local talent, combined with a fundraiser for the new Waterfront Park in Lavigne, ‘Parc Riverain‘ has resulted in tickets being in high demand, it will likely end up sold out as is the case of Valdy’s scheduled concert in Manitoulin that week.
Valdy’s Murillo concert, Monday Nov. 19, 2012 will also feature some incredible local talent, Jim ‘n’ I.  $5 from each $25 ticket from the Murillo show is being given back to the Disaster Relief Committee in Oliver Paipoonge.  As  noted above the Manitoulin show sold-out early, get your tickets to any of the other shows as soon as possible to avoid dissapointment.
In Wawa, Valdy’s concert will bring some welcome fun following weeks of hard work and stress for residents of it and surrounding communities who are still recovering from severe flooding October 24th.  The flooding caused a great deal of damage to Highway 17 and other important roads in the area including the one which leads to Michipicoten First Nation (the damage to this road has caused 67 residents to be evacuated to Wawa). a town recently hit by their own disaster. Tickets for the Wawa show are $20 for adults and $10 for children. The show is being held at the École St. Joseph Auditorium on Churchill Ave.
People have asked Valdy why the concerts are being held in small town Northern Ontario to which he has responded by explaining that these are types of the places he goes to relax and have a good time at a show and this is when the best music happens.  Everyone is invited to come out and see for themselves
