St. Martin School Launches Trick or Eat inTerrace Bay
TERRACE BAY, ON – Residents of Terrace Bay are used to hearing “Trick-or-Treat!” on October 31st, but this year the knocks came a little early and had a little twist. Monday, October 29th Terrace Bay residents were added to the growing list being visited annually by local Trick or EATers (that’s right, not Treat but E-A-T) including those in Marathon and Manitouwadge who have been participating in the worthwhile event for several years.
Students of St. Martin School went out, dressed up as superheroes, knocking on doors asking for donations of non-perishable food items for the local Harvest Cupboard food bank with a request of “Trick or Eat!” it was the first such initiative in the community as they participated in Trick or Eat’s 12th year of fighting hunger in Canada.
After an hour of “Trick-or-Eating”, the 10 students, along with parent volunteers, managed to bring in an impressive 629 pounds of food, or 650 food items (using Marathon Trick or Eat’ers formula that works out to an estimated $1,625 worth of food!). Not only did they return to the school with bags and boxes of food, they also brought with them huge smiles on their faces. All the students participants had a great time and were very appreciative of the donations received. After such great success in their inaugural year, St. Martin School is already anticipating next year’s Trick-or-Eat event!
