MARATHON, ON – The Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) paid tribute to the Special Olympics “Be a Fan” Day on Thursday October 25, 2012 by hosting a skating party at the Marathon Community Center. Students from the local schools attended and donated any loose change they had or found.
Several local Special OIympic athletes were on-hand to demonstrate their ability to don the blades and do a few strides. There were several parents and local constables out trying to keep up to the smaller speedsters.
Constable Dave Shaw would like to thank the local schools for their support and the town for the use of the arena. Through the generous donations of loose change, a total of $320 was raised for Special Olympics.
