Ontarians Gather To Honour Veterans

QUEEN’S PARK, ON – Ontarians honoured Canada’s fallen heroes during a Ceremony of Remembrance at the Queen’s Park Veterans’ memorial yesterday.

Premier Dalton McGuinty, Brigadier-General Omer Lavoie, Major-General Richard Rohmer (Retired) joined veterans to observe two minutes of silence. Members of the public, Canadian Forces, cadets and families also paid tribute.

The ceremony also included a 21-gun salute performed by the 7th Toronto Regiment, a youth pledge and a reading of the poem In Flanders Fields.

  • John McCrae was born in Guelph and wrote the poem In Flanders Fields during the First World War.
