Our Lady of Lourdes School A Very Busy Place
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Here, at Our Lady of Lourdes, the school is alive and active. Science is moving at every level. In the photo above, Grade 4 and Grande 5 students build a straw bridge. While this is happening, our Grades 6 and 8 students were building debris houses on the hill not too far from the school, using materials that would otherwise decay.
Mass is also an integral part of Catholic Education. On a weekly base, the children celebrate the Word of God. During each month they try their best to work on one of the virtues. The virtue for October was Respect and the award winners were proud to receive their certificates. The virtue for November was Courage and Justice. Staff and students were encouraged to take courage and help each other to be honest and to support each other when need be. Honesty is the best policy. As we enter into December, we will concentrate on Patience as we wait for the coming of our Lord and Saviour.
Science North recently visited our school and spent time at each Grade level thanks to a grant. We took the opportunity to bring it the community. Over one hundred participants attended. They had a chance to see the Planetarium. All students really enjoyed these two days.
Grades 7 are enjoying the 3-part Math lessons and are discovering how much fun Math can be. Grades 1 / 2 and 3 / 4 are learning more about reading and writing through the CAFE and Daily 5 activities. Grade 8 students are taking a lead role as they organize the recess time and lunch time for their school mates. Grade 6’s worked on dream catchers while the Grades 4 / 5 were busy teaching others about waste during lunch and how we could help the environment. The school is vibrant when it comes to education.
We are planning the best Christmas Concert ever, including a special dance from our new Priest, Father Lawrence. We would like to welcome Best Start. We work together as a team, leading our participants and students down the path of learning. They offer afterschool programmes for us and we invite them to our afterschool activities. It is a great opportunity for both of us.
