WAWA, ON – Recently officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by a local school bus company that motorists are failing to stop for the stop signals on their buses around town. The OPP would like to remind the public that this is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. Motorists are required to stop for a school bus that has its overhead red lights flashing. The total fine for this offence is $490.00 and is six demerit points. No charges were laid as a result of this complaint but OPP warn that future offences may result in charges.
