NEW INTERNET SCAM REPORTED LOCALLY; MISCHIEF TO MOORE ARENA

WAWA, ON – November 14, 2012 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by a local complainant of a “pop up” on his computer.  It stated that the Police Cyber Crime Investigation Department were monitoring his computer and that he had committed an infraction and he was required to pay a $100 immediately.  Fortunately the complainant did not pay any money and reported it to his internet provider and the OPP.  This matter was referred to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

If you discover that you have become a victim of a fraud or scam, contact your local police immediately.  If your credit cards or banking information are involved, notify the companies as soon as you can so they may assist you.  Occasionally checking your credit rating will ensure that you have not become a fraud victim.

MISCHIEF TO LOCAL ARENA

CHAPLEAU, ON  – November 12, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chapleau Detachment were advised of damage to the front door of the Moore Arena.  The damage is believed to have occurred over night.  At this time OPP continue to investigate and are requesting that anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
