MARATHON, ON – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon Detachment are continuing their investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision.

October 7, 2012, OPP and emergency crews responded to a report of a collision on Highway 627, approximately 10 kilometres south of Highway 17 in Pic River First Nation.   At approximately 10:25 pm, a northbound car carrying four occupants collided with a southbound pickup truck carrying two occupants.  The crash and ensuing fire resulted in significant damage to both vehicles.  The driver and two passengers of the car were pronounced dead at the scene; one 17-year-old male passenger was treated for injuries at the Marathon’s Wilson Memorial Hospital and later released.  The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene; one 42-year- old female passenger was transported by air to Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre where she remains in serious condition.

Police can confirm the following people were killed as a result of the collision.  All vehicle occupants were all residents of the Pic River First Nation.

• Greg NABIGON, age 36 years
• Jordan NABIGON, age 22 years
• Kody NABIGON, age 17 years

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are continuing to work with Marathon OPP Detachment members on the investigation.  OPP North West Region Forensic Identification Unit and the Regional Coroner’s office have scheduled all post mortem examinations to take place at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
