Thunderhawks Women’s Hockey – October 27 Game Recap

The Thunderhawks women’s hockey team faced a tough opponent in the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League Predators and, despite entering the third on even terms, went down to defeat 6-2 in the squad’s second game of the Rainy River Community College Can-Am Tournament in International Falls, Minnesota.

Confederation College was down two goals with 7:45 left in the second period when Devin Bemben scored, assisted by Crystal Duhaime. Bemben returned the favour a minute and forty-three seconds later, passing to Duhaime who shot a laser over the right shoulder of the Predators’ netminder.

The teams left the ice at the end of the second knotted at two goals each. But the third period was a strong one for the Predators. The Thunderhawks ran into penalty trouble and the Preds capitalized with two power play goals in less than two minutes, at 7:22 and 6:04. Confederation College tried to stage a late comeback, pulling the goalie with two minutes left, but couldn’t penetrate the Preds defence. The final goal was an empty-netter with 17 seconds remaining.

The Thunderhawks’ next action is on Sunday morning against Michigan State University.
