Statement from Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha on State of Emergency in Wawa
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha made the following statement today after the Municipality of Wawa and surrounding areas in north-western Ontario declared a state of emergency due to major flooding.
“I want to express my support for the people of Wawa and surrounding area as you face flooding danger in your community. Previous to a state of emergency being declared there were mounting concerns over the state of local bridges and roads which needed serious repairs. We are concerned that with this flooding the need for assistance to repair them is even greater.
I have spoken with the Ministry of Community Safety and expressed my concern over the need to act quickly to assist the community of Wawa. I have spoken with Wawa Mayor Linda Nowicki and will be meeting with her once I arrive in Wawa today; I have assured her that I along with my staff and colleagues are here to assist in any way we can. I also want to thank emergency officials and local leaders for the outstanding job you are doing to keep people safe.”
