Ontario Brings More Solar Power Online
Ontario’s clean energy economy is bringing more renewable energy online, while creating good jobs for families.
Innergex’s Stardale Solar Farm in East Hawkesbury, will produce 30 megawatts of clean electricity, enough to power more than 3,200 homes. During its peak construction period, the project created approximately 185 jobs.
The Stardale Solar Farm joins other large solar projects in the province including SunEdison’s SunE Rutley Solar Farm in South Stormont andEnbridge’s Sarnia Solar Farm. Together those projects are generating enough clean renewable electricity to power 11,500 homes.
Growing the clean energy sector is an important part of the McGuinty government’s plan to create and support jobs for Ontario families while ensuring we have the electricity we need to power our homes, schools, hospitals and the economy.
QUICK FACTS
- Ontario is home to the 25 largest solar projects in the country and is the leading solar energy producer in Canada.
- Ontario has more than 550 megawatts of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity online and has more than 1,800 megwatts of additional solar PV capacity under contract. This is expected to produce enough electricity to power over 280,000 homes.
- Since 2003, Ontario has brought more than 10,000 megawatts of new and refurbished clean energy online – enough electricity capacity to supply power to cities the size of Ottawa and Toronto combined.
