West Finals host still to be determined…
The North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) finals are around the corner and a host team has yet to be determined.
The Geraldton Composite High School Knights senior basketball team is in front at the moment. However, with scores at recent games very close, anything could happen. The Knights visit the Lake Superior High School Stingers in Terrace Bay, Monday, October 29th to wrap up their season and if the senior girls basketball team wins they will be tied with the Knights at two wins. Thursday, November 1st, the LSHS Stingers play host to the Nipigon-Red Rock District High School Lakers and could earn the right to host the finals with another home win. However, if these teams end up in a three-way tie, a very interesting tie-breaker could take place.
The Lake Superior High School’s junior girls Stingers punched their way to the finals with two wins over the once dominant Nipigon-Red Rock District High School Lakers in Red Rock on October 25th. Geraldton (GCHS) and Longlac’s Huskies (École Secondaire Chateau Jeunesse) did not field junior girls basketball teams this season.
In the East and Central Divisions nearly all the finalists have been determined. The Hornepayne junior and senior boys volleyball teams will attend the finals. École Secondaire Catholique Trillium from Chapleau and Dubreuilville’s École Secondaire l’Orée des Bois play one more game in senior hoops. If Trillium’s Coyotes (Chapleau) win they will be in a tie with Hornepayne High School’s Hawks. Chapleau Trillium junior girls have advanced to the finals with wins over Hornepayne.
The École Secondaire St. Joseph Chevaliers will defend their Junior Girls Basketball title along with the Senior Falcons from Marathon High School. Both Wolverine boys volleyball teams have also qualified for the November 7th and 8th finals to be held at the home of the Senior Girls West Division Champion.
