NIPIGON OPP SEARCH FOR SUSPECT ENDS WITH ARREST – Update 3

NIPIGON, ON  – October 16th, 2012 at approximately 12:50 p.m. information was received by the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from an alert citizen reporting a suspicious person on Nipigon Bay Road, Township of McAllister.  The report resulted in an immediate ground search by the OPP North West Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K-9 Unit.  Shortly after 1:00 p.m., a male subject was located and taken into custody without incident.

Police had been searching for the male who had failed to stop for police on October 11, 2012 after it was confirmed the driver was operating a stolen vehicle.   Witnesses observed a suspicious male at a seasonal residence on Nipigon Bay Road late in the afternoon on October 15 which initiated a secondary search.

Richard Phillip MARCIA, a 50 year old male from Barrie, Ontario, has been arrested and is charged with:

  • Flight From Police,
  • Dangerous Driving,
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000,
  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000,
  • Break, Enter Theft & Break & Enter with intent

Contrary to the Criminal Code.  The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled for a video remand on October 17, 2012 to answer to these charges.

NIPIGON OPP SEARCH FOR SUSPECT UPDATE 2

NIPIGON, ON –Officers of the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to search for the suspect of a stolen vehicle investigation.

Thursday October 11th, 2012 Nipigon OPP attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Hwy 17, Township of Patience and the driver fled from police.  The unoccupied vehicle was located in the Nipigon Bay Road area and after an extensive search, the driver was not located.

Monday October 15th at approximately 4:30 p.m.  (16:30) Nipigon OPP were notified of a break and enter at a camp on Nipigon Bay Road.  Descriptors reported by witnesses of the subject observed are similar to the suspect from the stolen vehicle incident.  Nipigon OPP with the assistance of the North West Emergency Response Team (ERT), Thunder Bay City K-9 Unit, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services (NAPS) K-9 Unit, Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail Police, and the North West Region Crime Unit conducted a search of the area.

Currently, the Nipigon OPP with the assistance of the North West Region Emergency Response Team, OPP K-9 Unit, and Crime Unit continue to search for the suspect.  The subject being sought by police is described as a white male between the age of 30 and 40 with dark curly hair.

Police are requesting that motorists travelling on Hwy 17 between Nipigon and Schreiber report any pedestrians or suspicious persons at 1-888-310-1122.

This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be provided as information becomes available.
