Kids Cooking Up Some Fun at the Manitouwadge Best Start Hub (+ a look at October programs)
Cooking Up Some Fun at the Hub
MANITOUWADGE, ON – October 9th, the Best Start Hub hosted “Books are for Eating”, a cooking class where twelve children, between the ages of 5 and 10, enjoyed creating their own culinary creation – pizza! While there were a variety of vegetables to choose from, most of the chefs decided that their pizza would consist of pepperoni and cheese. The would-be culinary masters enjoyed the program and the opportunity to make their own dough, grate their own cheese and cut up their own toppings.
The program, previously funded by a Healthy Communities Grant from the Ministry of Health Promotion, begins with a book, either read by or to the children, about a different country followed by preparation and cooking of the food in accordance with the customs of that particular country. In the past, recipes have included foods from India, Italy and Mexico. Program Coordinator Kristy Lachance suggested that “At a future sessions the children could possibly make some food from Japan, though I am not certain this would go over well!”
