MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, September 23rd the Golden Age Club quickly filled as OntarioNewsNorth.com Editor Karina Hunter was Master of Ceremonies, narrating the first, Threads – Your Community Closet Fashion Show, organized by volunteer Donna Jalbert, for the used clothing and housewares store of the same name (Threads – YCC) which she established and operates.

Models emerged from double doors at the front of the room in pairs before walking the length of the room and back, “runway style”  allowing those in attendance the opportunity to admire the fashions while Hunter introduced each mannequin, providing descriptions of the garments and accessories he/she wore.  The 14 models strutted their stuff in 4 or 5 different looks during the course of the show. The models looked great, were very entertaining, causing many “oohs” and “aahs” with their twirls and pozes, and provided a wonderful representation of Manitouwadge’s demographics; both male and female of ages ranging from Gradeschoolers to Grandmothers with body types just as varied.

Jalbert had been involved in similar initiative; a gently used clothing and houseware store from which funds benefitted charity, when she lived in Ignace, Ontario and decided after living in Manitouwadge just a short while, that she would establish a similar emporium here.  Threads – Your Community Closet was created and has become an instant favourite with locals.  The store is located in the lower level of the building they share with the Manitouwadge Museum, the beneficiary cause receiving profits from sales.

Jalbert has created a Facebook group where photos of new items are regularly posted and where she shared this message as the group’s status after the show

Everyone involved and all those who attended expressed their appreciation of Donna Jalbert’s hard work to plan and execute such a fun event and of her ongoing volunteer work which results in Threads – Your Community Closet’s continued success.
