MANITOUWADGE, ON – July 4th the Manitouwadge Economic Development Corporation Board members and representatives from the Township of Manitouwadge held a short ceremony at the downtown waterfront where they unveiled a signed recognizing the MEDC’s contributions to have the dock replaced.  The dock was removed several years ago because of safety concerns due to it’s age and wear.  Though it is not the only dock on Manitouwadge Lake it is the main boat launch area for residents and also a favourite spot for swimmers; the dock is adjacent to Prospectors’ Park which has a beachfront and picnic tables for public use and is visible, and just steps, from the downtown core.

Economic Development Officer Anthony Friedrich was pleased to see the project completed “It was always something that the Township wanted to replace and we felt it was the right time, it was a good project to move forward” said Friedrich adding that “There seemed to have been a misconception that the municipality was repairing the dock and though we were a partner in the project it was completely funded by the MEDC”.

As for the teens who have been using the dock they are hoping it isn’t quite complete “There should be a ladder, it’s almost impossible to get up on the dock from the water if you are swimming and it’s not much fun if we have to keep swimming over to the cement pad [boat launch] to walk out”, the township has not commented regarding whether there may be a ladder or other additions made to the dock at a latter date.
