Kapuskasing OPP Detachment Officially Opens
McGuinty Government Supports Safer Communities by Upgrading Facilities
Residents of the Kapuskasing area are benefitting from a new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, which officially opened today (July 26th, 2012).
“We are committed to giving police the tools they need to keep Ontarians safe. This new facility is just one of the many projects across Ontario to renew OPP infrastructure. This state-of-the-art facility will help the OPP serve the community better for years to come.” Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services
The new facility is part of the McGuinty government’s commitment to replace or upgrade OPP facilities for front-line officers, helping them keep Ontario communities safe. The modern building provides over 12,800 square feet of space for the detachment, which had outgrown its former home.
Additional facilities include:
- Evidence vaults.
- A new fingerprint room.
- Four holding cells.
- A boardroom with public access for community meetings.
- A secure compound to accommodate seized vehicles.
Investing in local infrastructure is part of the McGuinty government’s plan to create and support jobs for Ontarians while strengthening local economies
“The new building ensures that officers and civilian employees in Kapuskasing have improved working conditions so they can continue to provide the effective professional policing services the community has come to expect.” Chris Lewis, Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police
