Gravelle announces $11 million in repaving work in Greenstone
IMPROVING HIGHWAY 11 NEAR BEARDMORE
Once completed, the project will link the newly-resurfaced stretch of Highway 11 from Nipigon all the way through Beardmore. A 49 km stretch of the highway was renewed, from Nipigon to OrientBay, last summer. Ontario is repaving nearly 30 kilometres of Highway 11 near Beardmore, creating about 100 jobs. The reconstruction work begins just east of Orient Bay and extends for just under 30km (28.9 km). The project will continue through Beardmore, ending at the Black Water Bridge at the east end of Beardmore. “Our government is improving infrastructure across the province, while creating jobs and strengthening our economy. Projects such as improvements on Highway 11 will help ensure our roads are safe and in good condition for years to come.” Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Transportation
This new $11.4 million project will strengthen the northern transportation network by reducing maintenance demands, improving the driving experience and making the road safer for families and businesses.
Investing in Northern Ontario’s roads, highways and bridges is part of the McGuinty government’s Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong Northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families – health care and education.
“By investing in highway infrastructure through the Northern Highways Program, our government is advancing safety, maintaining vital transportation links for residents and industries and promoting economic development and job creation throughout Northern Ontario.” Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
