ELLIOT LAKE, ON – As residents of Elliot Lake grieve the victims of the Algo Centre Mall collapse, many are also dealing with the disruption of services resulting from the loss of a major community hub.
A number of services provided by municipal, provincial and federal government have been affected, and Ontario is working with its federal and municipal partners to ensure residents of Elliot Lake and the surrounding area can still access the services that are important to them.
Ontario Minister of Community and Social Services John Milloy assured Elliot Lake Services that the Ontario Government was working to minimize interuptions “I want to thank everyone in Elliot Lake for coming together during this difficult time. We’ll do everything we can to minimize interruption to services, and help other levels of government do the same as we move forward from this tragedy.” said Milloy.
Service Canada has moved its operations temporarily to the Ontario Employment Centre at 50 Hillside Drive North. The office can be reached at 1-800-622-6232.
The Algoma Public Health office will relocate to Elliot Lake Secondary School at 303 Mississauga Avenue beginning Tuesday, July 3. Evening sexual health services and immunization clinics will be held at the Elliot Lake Family Health Team at 31 Nova Scotia Walk. The office can be reached at 705-848-2314.
The Algoma District Services Administration Board, which provides Ontario Works, Children’s Services and Housing Services is also temporarily relocating to Elliot Lake Secondary School. Further updates will be available at www.adsab.on.ca. The office can be reached at 705-848-7153.
The Elliot Lake Courthouse was adjourned last week as security officers assisted at the scene, and will re-open Tuesday, July 3.

- Premier McGuinty will launch an independent public inquiry into the Algo Centre Mall collapse, with details to be announced later.
