McGuinty Government Helps Young People Develop Skills, Build Careers
Ontario is helping young northerners gain hands-on work experience and find jobs by investing in internships and work placements across Northern Ontario.
Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s (NOHFC) Youth Internship and Co-op Program, 350 young people are benefiting from on-the-job training. These students are learning important skills that will prepare them for their future careers in fields such as information technology, journalism, accounting, dental care, marketing, forestry, human resources, welding, and health and safety.
Creating jobs in Northern Ontario is part of the McGuinty government’s Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families – health care and education.

QUICK FACTS
- Ontario has supported 350 placements over the past year by investing approximately $7 million through the NOHFC’s Youth Internship and Co-op Program since April 2011.
- Since launching the program in 2005, Ontario has supported about 2,500 placements.
