Our Lady of Lourdes 2012 Kindergarten Graduates
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Friday, June 22nd, families of Our Lady of Lourdes Senior Kindergarten class gathered in the Prayer Atrium with Principal Diane Nelson, their Teacher Mrs. Clare Milks and her aids Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Cashman, Mme. Desilet and Mme. Valieres.
Eleven young graduates entered the atrium in single file, following Mrs. Milks and marched through the assembly to allow everyone in attendance an opportunity to enjoy the sight of their smiling faces proudly toped with graduating caps. They performed a great cheer, each student having a large paper letter they held high above their held, spelling out K-I-N-D-E-R-G-A-R-T-E-N before they sang a song saying goodbye to the year they had mastered and an anticipatory hello to Grade 1 awaiting them in the fall.
The ceremony included the students proudly displaying their ability to read, singing songs in French and English and reciting poems; parents, guardians, siblings and other loved ones were clearly very impressed as told their enthusiastic applause. Mrs. Milks then said a few words to thank her assistants whom she credited with having helped her throughout the year in many tasks, each was then presented with a gift.
Mrs. Milks and Mme. Nelson then addressed the students, reminding them of all they had learned in their short time at school, how far they had come since beginning school in Junior Kindergarten 2 years prior. For Mme. Nelson it was a bittersweet moment as this would be the last Kindergarten class she would usher to Grade 1 as Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes as she is retiring this year. Though Mrs. Milks would not be far in September, just across the hall, she was quite moved when speaking to her “Flowers” of how they had grown and blossomed in their time in her kinder Garden. Each student was then presented with a Kindergarten Completion Diploma by Mrs. Milks and Mme. Nelson.
Another showering applause and the ceremony was complete. Parents jumped on the opportunity to take photos of the graduates with their class before everyone enjoyed a buffet of sandwhiches and desserts. The piece de resistance for the children was a cake baked by Mme. Nelson herself which featured photos of each of the graduates and Mrs. Milks – the students were all very excited to have a piece of cake with their face on it.
Congratulations! To Mariah, Vera-Anne, Joshua, Richie, Owen, Emily, Nea, Phoenix, Anastasia, Emeraude and Babie Jane with their teacher Mrs. Milks.
