HUGHES EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES ALONG WITH GRATITUDE TO EMERGENCY WORKERS AND VOLUNTEERS
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – Residents of Elliot Lake are grieving the loss of two of their own in the aftermath of the Algo Mall roof collapse. The emergency response which gripped the nation came to a bitter crescendo as two victims were removed from the rubble on Wednesday.
As the focus turns from emergency response to grief, MP Carol Hughes is adding her voice to those sending their condolences to the families of the victims.
“I want to add my condolences and deepest sympathies to those of the community as we grieve along with the families,” said Hughes.
Hughes also heaped praise on the emergency workers (both volunteer and professional), the mayor and council along with the many volunteers, businesses and organizations that did their all to support the emergency response.
“Everybody pitched in including people who were running food and drinks so the crews could focus on the task at hand,” said Hughes. “I know the council and the business community will continue to do all that they can to help businesses and service outlets recover over the next few months as well.”
As Elliot Lake continues to deal with shock from the event, Hughes indicated that the reality of the event is settling in.
“The reality of the magnitude of the crisis still hits me in different ways that I didn’t expect and I am confident that I am not unique in that respect,” concluded Hughes.
