TYLER’s THOUGHTS

Back in 1987, a young looking Johnny Depp starred in a hip new comedy TV show about an undercover police unit posing as students while trying to solving youth crimes. Fast forward to 2012 and the concept has been revisited with the reboot of 21 Jump Street, a hilarious new comedy starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

This title headlines a very impressive week with nine new titles and a nice mix of genres to suit almost every taste! This week also marks the long anticipated release of The Artist which won the highest honor- Best Picture- at this year’s Academy Awards.

Let’s have a look at each new title in more detail…

NEW RELEASES ON DVD & BLU-RAY

21 Jump Street: starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum– After their first arrest goes horribly wrong, 2 rookie cops are sent on an undercover assignment at a local high school to try to take down the leaders of a new drug ring. (Comedy) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Wrath of the Titans: starring Sam Worthington and Liam Neeson– After his father, Zeus, is captured by his son, Ares, and brother Hades, Perseus embarks on a mission to save him. (Action/Adventure) (DVD, Blu-Ray and 3D Blu-Ray)

Mirror Mirror: starring Julia Roberts– An evil queen steals control of the kingdom while the princess enlists the help of seven “rebels” to win back the prince. Based on the Snow White story. (Drama/Fantasy) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

The Artist: starring Jean Dujardin– With the emergence of films with sound, a silent movie star delves into a depression until he meets Peppy Miller, a young dancer who is lighting up the silver screen. Academy Award Winner- Best Picture of 2011! (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray) (Silent Film)

Gone: starring Amanda Seyfried- A young woman takes the law into her own hands after her sister is abducted and no one believes her. (Action/Thriller) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

A Thousand Words: starring Eddie Murphy– A big-mouthed agent finds himself in a world of trouble when a tree springs up in his backyard and sheds leaves with every word that he speaks. (Comedy) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Bending the Rules: starring Jamie Kennedy and Edge- A district attorney teams up with an unlikely ally in an attempt to take down a corrupt cop. (Comedy/Action) (DVD and Blu-Ray)

Hiding: starring Anna Villafane and Jeremy Sumpter– After witnessing a horrific crime, a young woman is placed in protective custody where she finds herself in love with a local boy; and on the run from a dangerous criminal. (Drama/Thriller) (DVD)

Parasitic: A group of friends become trapped inside a nightclub where, one at a time, they fall victim to a bloodthirsty beast. (Horror) (DVD)

FOR THE GAMERS

Spec Ops The Line – 6 Months after the city of Dubai has been ravaged by a cataclysmic sandstorm, US Army Colonel John Konrad and his unit infiltrate the region in a desperate attempt to locate survivors. With communication to the outside world cut-off, things turn desperate as soldiers begin turning on each other and supplies are at a premium. Do you have what it takes to complete your mission? Available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

SUMMERFEST

Canada Day is fast approaching. Once again, the town of Marathon will be bustling as Summerfest activities are planned throughout the weekend and continuing into Monday.

Highlights of this year’s Summerfest include:
