BUILDING DAMS AND CROSSING BRIDGES AT MPS
MANITOUWADGE, ON – There have been some busy beavers at Manitouwadge Public School this spring! Mr. Larsen’s Junior and Senior Kindergarten students have been using their play-based and inquiry-based learning skills to study the Canadian Beaver and its habitat. These little environmentalists used their own imaginations to come up with the idea of building a beaver dam right in the classroom!
The kindergarten student-environmentalists:
- brainstormed a list of required materials,
- went on a nature walk to gather the materials,
- built the dam in a kiddie pool,
- stocked the dam with cute little beavers!!!
- tested the dam, once completed, by pouring water in the pool to simulate a real dam.
It’s hands-on learning like this that makes Manitouwadge Public School stand out as a great learning environment for children.
2012 SK GRADUATION
The beaver dam project was just one of many the Senior Kindergarten students looked back on fondly this week as they welcomed parents and family members at their Graduation. The students were very proud to be graduating to a big number classroom next year – Grade 1! Sporting their own graduate hat creations and smiling from ear to ear (with tears from moms, dads, and grandparents – as well as a few staff members) the little graduates paraded into the library to receive their diplomas.
Best of luck to the graduates next year as they become part of the ‘big kids’ group! You will no doubt continue to make everyone at Manitouwadge Public School proud.
