OPP INVESTIGATE CHILD’S DEATH
POPLAR HILL, ON – On May 9, 2012 members of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service responded to the death of an eighteen month old male identified as Isaac KEEPER from Pikangikum First Nation who was residing in Poplar Hill First Nation. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit and the Criminal Investigation Branch under the direction of Detective Inspector Dan Davidson are assisting Nishnawbe Aski Police Service in conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto May 12, 2012. The results of the examination are pending.
On May 13, 2012 Shannon MOOSE, a 33-year-old female from Poplar Hill who was the caregiver of 18-month-old Isaac KEEPER was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault contrary to section 268 of the Criminal Code. The accused has been remanded into custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on May 18, 2012.
The investigation is continuing.
