MCAG ‘PAINT THE TOWN BLUE’ CAMPAIGN WRAPS-UP
MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance’s annual April fundraiser the Helping Hands “Paint the Town Blue” campaign has wrapped up and the group is offering their sincere thanks to businesses and individuals who supported their efforts. A total of $537.39 was raised during the month of April when people were encouraged to make a silver donation to buy a hand at participating businesses who then displayed the hands in a prominent location in their store.
Franks’ grocery store (FP Gorges & Sons) had, in past years, led the campaign as cashiers there would encourage every shopper to purchase a hand quickly filling their front windows until the blue hands quickly obliterated any view of the sidewalk outside. Though Franks’ has closed its doors since last year’s campaign, the MCAG said that others took up challenge to support this fundraiser “It was heart-warming to see all those blue hands around town” said MCAG Vice-President Jackie Jung, R.N.
The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group works diligently throughout the year, raising funds for those in our community who have cancer and need financial assistance to carry on their fight. “With the help and generosity of our community partners, we are able to continue to help those fighting their battle with cancer” said Jung who reminds everyone that the MCAG’s Share the Care 5km walk takes place tomorrow, Saturday, May 12, from 11am to 1pm and all are welcome. The MCAG also changed how the walk was fundraising this year with pledge sheets still available but no longer a mandatory part of participation, those wanting to participate can simply make a donation on site tomorrow.
