Mantha Pleased To Announce 614 Completion – Contract Incl. Hwy 627 Pic River
Improvements to Highway 614 to Manitouwadge and Highway 627 to Pic River will include about 45 jobs
“I’m pleased to share good news with the people of Algoma-Manitoulin that that resurfacing and improvements on Highway 614 will be completed this year. This final 25-kilometer stretch concludes an important infrastructure project for my riding. Highway 614 provides a crucial link for the Manitouwadge area to the TransCanada highway.” said Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha.
Since being elected, Mantha has travelled Highway 614 regularly and is very familiar with the need for repairs to be completed and how the work involved could positively affect the small community. The work of repairing the road bed, improving drainage and potentially decreasing maintenance demands, includes 25 kilometres of pavement reconstruction on Highway 614 as well as 12 kilometres on Highway 627 to Pic River and is projected to create approximately 45 jobs.
“This project will bring valuable jobs to the area, while improving highway safety and the overall standard of living. Northern industry and residents depend on a safe, well maintained highway system” said Mantha.
E&E Seegmiller Limited was awarded the $6.3-million contract. they are scheduled to begin work on the two highways (614, 627) in June to be completed next Summer (2013).
