IMPROVING PATIENT ACCESS IN NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO
Gravelle and Mauro announce 66 new nursing positions through the NW LHIN
Ontario is strengthening the health care system and ensuring residents in Northwestern Ontario receive quality care close to home by creating more than 66 nursing positions.
The creation of more nursing positions to ensure the right care, at the right time, in the right place is part of the McGuinty government’s Action Plan for Health Care and builds upon the gains made in health care since 2003.
“This is great news for front-line health care. There are already 11,000 more nurses working in Ontario than we when we were elected in 2003. These additional 929 nursing positions is a further indication of our Government’s continued commitment to health care as our number one priority.” Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay-Atikokan
“Nurses provide vital services to a broad range of patients across the health care system. Increasing the number of nursing positions in the North West LHIN is essential to ensuring that Northwestern Ontario has the right number and mix of health care providers to meet health care needs of our residents both now, and in the future. These nursing positions will ensure that residents receive high quality care across the health care system in Northwestern Ontario, close to home.”
Laura Kokocinski, CEO, North West Local Health Integration Network
“These new nurses will improve frontline care by making sure patients get the right care where and when they need it. No one works more closely with patients than our nurses, who play key roles coordinating home care and providing preventative care in long-term care homes, outreach services in the community and surgical support in our hospitals.”
Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
