TERRACE BAY, ON – Upon conclusion of the downtown revitalization project last year, the inaugural Lighthouse Street Festival was held in Simcoe Plaza.  The event received an excellent response from the public and included; games for all ages, giant inflatable castles, a show and shine, beer gardens and sidewalk sales from the business community.

In anticipation of a 2012 Lighthouse Festival, Council approved the submission of a funding application to enhance the festival with operational improvements.  This week, the Honourable Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport announced  that it was successful in its funding application for $39,000 from the Celebrate Ontario program administered by the Provincial government. Terrace Bay will use the funds to purchase new tables, chairs and safety fencing for the event which will reduce staff time and decrease annual costs.

“We are very grateful for this much needed support from the Ontario government.  This will not only help the Lighthouse Street Festival, but improve our capacity to hold other events in Terrace Bay.”  said Chief Administrative Officer Carmelo Notarbartolo

The Lighthouse Street Festival is tentatively planned for Friday August 24, 2012 with a similar setup and activities but additional focus on attracting visitors to Terrace Bay from the region.
