NIPIGON, ON –During the weekend of March 16 to March 18, 2012 Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):
- issued numerous Provincial Offence Notices
- responded to 30 calls for service
- conducted 4 R.I.D.E. checks
- investigated 2 motor vehicle collisions
Saturday, March 17 at 11:10 p.m. Nipigon OPP responded to a call of a stolen tire from a pick up truck in the Nipigon Arena parking lot. Witnesses reported to police descriptors of the suspect vehicle. Schreiber OPP conducted a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle on Hwy 17, Town of Schreiber at approximately 11:55 p.m. and after investigation charged the driver.
The 39 year old male driver of Batchewana First Nation, Ontario has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and Theft Under $5000 from a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver is to appear in court on May 15, 2012 to answer to these charges.
Sunday March 18 at 11:45 a.m. Schreiber OPP conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Hwy 17, east of Terrace Bay, Ontario. Officers found that the driver had been drinking. The driver was arrested and has been charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol content contrary to the Criminal Code.
The 50 year old male driver, Barry PITTMAN of Marathon, Ontario is to appear in Schreiber court on June 6, 2012 to answer to the charge.
