Nipigon engages local youth in Branding exercise
NIPIGON, ON – The Township of Nipigon is working to create a new Brand Identity that will better communicate the Nipigon experience to potential residents, visitors, businesses and investors. To be successful, this project needs input and ideas from the people who know Nipigon better than anyone else- its residents. A Communications & Community Engagement Plan, developed for the re-branding project, identifies youth as a key target audience
The benefit of involving young minds
“Engaging and consulting with community stakeholders of all ages is one of the most important components of this branding project, “ said Stephanie Ash founder of Firedog Communications. “Our goal is to ensure that we leverage the knowledge of those who know Nipigon the best-its residents, businesses and visitors. This entire project and its outcomes will be community-driven to ensure support and longevity for the new brand.”
The benefit of using local youth focus groups on creative projects like this one are that the youth tend to bring forth new ideas and perspectives, it tends to increase project support, it helps to break down communication barriers and gives us inspiration. Youth engagement can be almost any activity or effort to include young people in the decision‐making process.
“Engaging our local youth and becoming inspired by their creativity is an important step in community consultation,” said Mayor Richard Harvey. “We urge community members to really think about what makes Nipigon unique from other north shore communities and bring those ideas forward in upcoming community engagement session.”
