3 YOUTHS CHARGED IN PIKANGIKUM – DEATH INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

OPP INVESTIGATING DEATH IN PIKANGIKUM – Three Male Youths Charged

PIKANGIKUM, ON – The afternoon of March 27, 2012 a 17-year-old male from Pikangikum First Nation was reported missing to police.

At approximately 11:45pm March 27, 2012 a body was located behind a residence in the community of Pikangikum by police.  The deceased has been confirmed as 17-year-old Calvin QUILL of Pikangikum First Nation.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for March 30, 2012 and will take place inToronto.

Pikangikum First Nation Police Service with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit and the Criminal Investigation Branch under the direction of Detective Inspector Dan Davidson, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

On March 28, 2012 one male youth (17 years old) from Pikangikum First Nation was arrested and subsequently charged with Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

On March 29, 2012 two male youths (one 16 year old and one 17 year old) from Pikangikum First Nation were arrested and charged with Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

All three youths have been remanded into custody and will appear in Kenora Criminal Court March 30, 2012.

The investigation is continuing.
